The BFI Press Release

BFI and Palgrave Macmillan announce a publishing partnership plan

BFI and Palgrave Macmillan have announced their intention to work as partners on the BFI's publishing imprint. The arrangement, which is subject to contract, will provisionally take effect from 1 January 2008.

Under the partnership plan the BFI retains ownership of the list and
copyright in all titles. Palgrave Macmillan will assume management
responsibility of the BFI imprint, which includes a wide range of
academic and trade books on cinema and television history and
culture, educational resources written for teachers and learners, as
well as a number of DVD packs to aid media literacy education in
schools.

Palgrave Macmillan will take over worldwide sales, marketing and
distribution as well as editorial and production functions. The BFI will
continue to provide access to archival materials such as film images
as required.

A joint editorial board will meet regularly to discuss forthcoming
projects and to ensure that Palgrave Macmillan has advance notice of
the BFI’s cultural plans in order to inform the commissioning process.
Both publishers share similarly high production and scholarly values
and the board will ensure that the integrity of these are maintained.
Amanda Nevill, Director of the BFI, said: "The BFI remains absolutely
committed to film scholarship. By working with one of the strongest
academic publishers in the world to support and grow this important
and flourishing area of study, we will be able to secure the investment
that BFI publishing deserves."

Dominic Knight, MD of Palgrave Macmillan, said: "We are delighted to
have the opportunity to partner with the BFI on this unique imprint.
We look forward to drawing on our combined strengths to extend
professional and cutting edge publishing in the study of cinema and television."
